Amistad 2023 Voyage for Freedom Tour

From August 2nd to 21st and August 29th to September 5th, Discovering Amistad is providing free tours of the Amistad ship at the New Haven Pier. Our education team will teach you about the ship’s construction, the Amistad Rebellion story, and how we use the vessel today.

Our program starts with the 1839 Amistad Uprising and the landmark Supreme Court decision that followed. We focus on themes of social justice, such as resistance, dehumanization, and their modern-day parallels. Our program is unique and features specially trained educators who conduct lessons both in classrooms and aboard the ship. By using the past as a framework, we address current challenges related to diverse social issues and bring history to life.
