Since 1958, the rink has served as the home of Yale men’s hockey, and since 1977, it has been the home of Yale women’s hockey. The rink is known as the “Yale Whale” due to its hump-backed roof and distinctive 300-foot backbone, which was designed by the renowned architect Eero Saarinen.
