Louis’ (pronounced loo·ee) Lunch is famous for being the birthplace of the hamburger sandwich. In 1900, a customer walked in and asked for something he could eat on the run. Proprietor Louis Lassen quickly placed his blend of ground steak trimmings between two slices of toast, and the hamburger sandwich was born. Today, the restaurant serves burgers made from a proprietary blend of five meat varieties and cooked to order on original cast-iron grills from 1898. The restaurant has a strict policy of not offering any condiments, and cheese, tomato, and onion are the only acceptable toppings. Your dining experience will be much the same as it was generations ago, with a fresh burger grilled to perfection.
