Madison

Originally the eastern portion of Guilford, Madison was first settled in 1641. The Town of Madison, named for President James Madison, was incorporated in 1826.
Today, Madison shines with New England charm. Downtown is highlighted by a traditional town green and a centrally located shopping district featuring locally owned retail shops and restaurants.
The town also offers a host of outdoor activities. Madison is home to Hammonasset Beach State Park, which features 2 miles of shoreline, a large campground and over 20 hiking trails. Rockland Preserve, a 650 acre town-owned property in northern Madison features nationally rated singletrack trails for mountain biking, trail running, and walking.
