City: Branford
A 45-minute narrated tour around the picturesque Thimble Islands aboard the Sea Mist. Captain Mike entertains with interesting facts as well as stories past and present.
The Thimble Islands are a group of over 100 islands located off the coast of Branford. They are known for their rugged beauty and scenic landscapes, characterized by rocky shorelines, sandy beaches, and dense vegetation. The islands have a rich history dating back thousands of years, and were a popular summer retreat for wealthy families in the 19th century. Today, they are a popular destination for boaters, kayakers, and sightseers looking to explore their scenic beauty and historic charm.
Legend has it that Captain Kidd, a Scottish pirate, buried treasure on one of the Thimble Islands off the coast of Branford. Though commissioned by the British government to capture other pirates, Kidd soon took up piracy himself and is believed to have sailed the waters of Long Island Sound and the Connecticut coast, seeking out merchant ships to plunder. While many have searched the Thimble Islands for Kidd’s treasure, no definitive evidence of its existence has ever been found.
